Cloud Control Sign to US label Turnout Records + Touring Europe/UK With The Drums

To say Cloud Control has had a busy year would be quite the understatement.

The band released its debut album BLISS RELEASE in the UK and Europe in May to much critical acclaim, took out the coveted Australian Music Prize, played Reading, Leeds, SXSW, Latitude, Field Day and Splendour in the Grass festivals, played headline shows throughout UK, Europe and the US, toured in support of the likes of Arcade Fire, Supergrass, Local Natives and Vampire Weekend and have now officially penned a deal with US Label TURNOUT – home to Brooklyn buzz band ‘We Are Augustines’, making them the second official signing to the boutique indie label (through Atlantic/Warner).

After its release in the UK/Europe earlier this year on independent label Infectious, BLISS RELEASE has received a wealth of praise amongst industry and audiences alike, with glowing 4 star reviews in  the Guardian, Times, Independent & Q Magazie. CLOUD CONTROL has also been announced as one of the most played acts on BBC6 in 2011.

CLOUD CONTROL will join the THE DRUMS on their month long tour in Europe / UK before winding up the year back in Oz for Woodford, Pyramid Rock, Field Day and Launched Festival over NYE.

The band will be heading back into the studio in early 2012 to finish writing and begin recording their follow up LP.

The digital-only mix-tape is being released for free through the bands website and features a swagger of originals and some mash ups (Hello? Selena Gomez could you please stand up!), as well as a video of the duo performing on a row boat, floating down the iconic River Thames in England. Say what?

2011 marks an exciting year for long-term musical amigos Russell and Doug. The two embarked on a global journey that saw them visit the grand old US of A as well as Europe and South America.

While traveling together the two had plenty of fanciful adventures including playing exclusive parties in London and Brighton, and a day long row boat ride down the historic River Thames, MPCs and a picnic basket on tow.

When asked what inspiration behind the boat ride was Doug quips

“Russ can be a bit of an action man so when he told me he wanted to take me on a boat ride down the Thames, I figured he meant a speed boat or some such thing.”

Russell is known for his practical jokes and when asked about this deception provided this explanation:

“I’d agreed to do a live video with our MPCs plugged straight into a video camera! I knew Doug would be scared by that, so I had to lie to him. Luckily we had a really nice time together” Russell said.

Touché!, Russ, touché!

Following the release of Hookz 4, Fishing will hit the road with American beat-wizard Baths, as well as Australian favourites Richard in Your Mind, after which they’ll shy away to record their keenly anticipated debut album.

The Hookz 4: Lophiiforme mixtape is now available for free download from the band’s website www.fishingsounds.com/hookz

Cloud Control last night launched The Aviary, a weekly residency at the Social, London for June-July, with performances from like-minded souls such as Cymbals, Big Deal, Alpines and Dry the River. The Aviary will runs for three more weeks, and each night will be programmed in collaboration with some of the hottest promoters of the moment. More details are available at www.cloudcontrolband.com.

The band released Bliss Release in the UK in May to critical acclaim, including 4* reviews in Q, The Times and The Guardian. Concocted between the rocky outcrop of the Blue Mountains and the hard place that is Sydney’s former Red Light District, Bliss Release is harmonic pop as eccentric as David Byrne and as modishly psychedelic as early Jefferson Airplane, swathed in layers of analogue reverb and with an outlook of an epic vastness. The album recently won the Australian Music Prize, the antipodean equivalent of the Mercury Prize; it has been bolstered for its UK release, with reworked and new tracks.

Fishing Release Hookz 3: Maccullochella Peelii

Fishing have delved deeper in to the pond and come back up with their finest collection yet – Hookz 3 Maccullochella Peelii.

The digital-only mix tape is being released for free through the band’s website and contains something a little different this time. Last month Fishing presented a whopping 18 tracks but this time they have come forth with a video clip and companion mp3, a ghetto rap, a world class remix and some stems for those feeling a little creative.

The Maccullochella Peelii, or Murray Cod as it is better know, is an important and charismatic part of Australia’s vertebrate wildlife and Doug Wright of Fishing thought it a fitting title for Hookz 3.

“I’ve never seen a Murray Cod in the flesh so that fact alone makes this particular fish a bit mysterious to me. I imagine Murray to be a really fun guy to hang out with – until he eats you. Maccullochella Peelii is a carnivore if you didn’t know.

Dougs musical spouse Russell disagrees

“I’m not sure why Doug said that. He knows I just like the name Murray. I wish he would listen when I talk to him.”Despite their differences, Fishing are proud to offer their fans something new and beautiful. A video and accompanying mp3, a ghetto-party rap, a Jonathan Boulet remix and the stems to their song “Brown Legs” for people to cut up and get creative with.

The mixtape is available to download now from the band’s website – www.fishingsounds.com/hookz
Fishing are also currently in the US and UK where they will be playing a small number of shows. Watch their website for more information as it is announced.

Belles Will Ring Announce New Album, Tour

We’ve been promising it for a while, but Belles Will Ring’s long awaited second LP is due on Friday 13th of May. It’s called Crystal Theatre and I can comfortably say that it’s one of the best records I’ve ever heard. By far the bands best to date and an easy contender for album of the year.

To say I’m excited would be a dramatic understatement. I’m thrilled, exhilerated, electrified, enraptured. Aflutter.

From the media release:

Crystal Theatre is a striking collection of hazy, sun-drenched songs laced with the bands signature psychedelic style and a deeper, darker tone. Recorded throughout 2010 in the tiny town of Portland in central western NSW, the band left the city behind and escaped to the country to record the album.

Belles Will Ring - Crystal Theatre. Out Friday 13th May

And to top it all off Belles are embarking on a national tour to play the record live to everyone. Dates and details are:

Belles Will Ring team up with The Laurels for a co-headline single launch show on Friday 23rd at Nortcote Social Club.

Belles Will Ring launch their new 3-track single ‘Come To The Village’ (Remote Control) peppered by the familiar sound of Belles Will Ring’s vintage guitar interplay, militaristic rhythm section and psychedelic folk harmonies. Expect LP number 2 from Belles Will Ring in Spring later this year.

“Produced to perfection, the song reaches that blissful point of polyphony where everything sort of bleeds into a joyous hum and you want to take your clothes of and sway in the wind. First class.” – The Brag ‘Single of the Week’

Sydney shoegazers The Laurels present the first slice from their forthcoming debut EP, the blissful and aptly titled ‘Turn On Your Mind’ a perfect introduction into the world of The Laurels.

‘‘The Laurels are one of those bands that in a relatively short life have amassed a good share of acclaim without having released so much as an EP. What may come as a surprise is that they deserve the acclaim’’ – Fasterlouder.com

Belles Will Ring release new single, new album coming and currently on tour with Parades

Belles Will Ring have diverged from the road they travelled when their first album was released, 2007′s psychedelic pop canon Mood Patterns. With the new 3-track single Come To The Village accompanying their forthcoming full-length 2nd album, they have distilled the essence of Belles Will Ring into something sparer, darker and thematically driven. The band’s core songwriters Liam Judson and Aidan Roberts spent the better part of 2009 writing a collection of songs centred around an agreed theme – the idea of escape, and its many forms – from civilization, unexpected trouble, or from pre-determined paths. Inspired by the open spaces and strange mental states that accompany touring (something Belles Will Ring did a lot of in 2008 and 2009), the songs came easily, and the band then took a sojourn over two weeks in a NSW country estate to work the songs into the context of the full band.

Refreshed by the open spaces and distraction-free creative environment, it was here that Belles Will Ring recorded the blood and bones of precisely the kind of record they have wanted to make ever since Mood Patterns; a true road-trip of an album, the songs at once timeless and contemplative, spiked with the adrenaline of a chase to get away from reality. The as-yet untitled full-length LP will be released in late 2010, covering the full gamut of this new-found dramatic focus within the songs, as elucidated in Come To The Village; all shades from light to dark, peppered by the familiar sound of Belles Will Ring’s vintage guitar interplay, militaristic rhythm section and psychedelic folk harmonies.

Come To The Village is available digitally now via itunes.com/belleswillring and on CD at all live shows. You can also stream via myspace.com/belleswillring and facebook.com/belleswillring.
