Cloud Control performed Kid Cudi’s ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ for Triple J’s Like A Version last week. It was rad!!!
So we’re pretty excited about this. Cloud Control have been working on this album for about a year. It’s their first LP and without being biased, I think I can say it’s one of the best records I’ve heard in years. You can get it from iTunes or by heading to any local record store.
If you’re in Sydney tonight you can come and check the band out on the first of their album release shows. Oxford Arts Factory, Sydney.
That’s right! Cloud Control are supporting Vampire Weekend on their Australian national tour. We’re ever so excited about this, as you imagine.

After months of anticipation, Cloud Control’s debut album is sure to be a Bliss Release!
Umbrella is also pleased to announce Cloud Control’s national tour in support of their brand new LP ‘Bliss Release’, hitting stores on May 14.
‘Bliss Release’ was recorded through 2009 and early 2010 and has so far offered two sublime singles, ‘Gold Canary’ and ‘This Is What I Said’. It took just four days to lay the bed tracks for the majority of the album, then eight long months of stolen evenings crafting this ethereal sound in bedrooms and family living rooms.
‘Bliss Release’ heralds a surprising and exciting new direction for the band, making it worthy of international recognition. ‘Gold Canary’ was chosen by UK voters as Single Of The Week on BBC6’s Rebel Playlist and influential British music website Drowned In Sound awarded Gold Canary ‘Single of the week’.
There was no love lost at home either, with local connoisseurs Mess and Noise proclaiming that “Gold Canary quickly assumes its place as one of the best Australian singles of the year”.
The band has also evolved into a triumphant live music beast supporting high profile acts such as Supergrass and Josh Pyke, as well as numerous national tours with the likes of The John Steel Singers, Leader Cheetah and Yves Klein Blue. To top it all off, in 2009 they were invited to play the Great Escape festival in the UK, where they performed alongside Kasabian, The XX, The Temper Trap, Peter, Bjorn & John and many more.
The band will be touring right throughout May and June with fellow psych pop compatriots Richard In Your Mind joining in on all dates.
You are cordially invited to this celebration, with tickets going on sale Monday 29th March, available at www.cloudcontrol.net.au and outlets listed below – Release the Bliss!

Cloud Control have released This Is What I Said, the second single from their forthcoming debut record Bliss Release.
It’s unreal! Check it out on their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/cloudcontrol
Cloud Control have been added to rotation on BBC Radio 6 after Steve Lamacq added them to his Rebel Playlist. Listeners were able to email in and vote for which track they would like to see added. The people spoke and Gold Canary took out the title!
This has come after The Passport Label released Gold Canary as a 7” in the UK (available on pre-order now).
In addition to being added to rotation on BBC Radio 6, Gold Canary has been made single of the week on Drowned In Sound and single of the month on Subba Cultcha. Some really positive reviews have also been posted. Check ‘em out:
SINGLE OF THE WEEK ON DROWNED IN SOUND
“Cloud Control have a done a great, big, wonderful, many-bitted thing, so it is to their enormous credit that ‘Gold Canary’ is such a balmy, tender delight. From the sea-shanty, impossibly warm man-vocals that start it, to the psych-out at 01:30 in, to the yelps one cannot help singing along with, everything in this single works. You know, even if you get nose to nose with it and can see its gaping pores.”
SINGLE OF THE MONTH ON SUBBA-CULTCHA.COM
“A gorgeously complex mix of sounds and influences – choral chanting builds up whilst one of the most delicate and sumptuous melodies pours over it, the primal beat inspiring mass hand claps and whilst it doesn’t break a sweat to get your attention, the quixotic mix of ideas will certainly not leave you unmoved!”
From RECORD COLLECTOR (March 2010, Issue 373)
“File this Aussie combo somewhere between Animal Collective’s Beach Boys spin and the sophisticated pop shenanigans of The Shins… Gold Canary sports a psychedelic chant stomp that wouldn’t seem out of place on AC’s Merriweather Post Pavilion, unpeeling close harmonies like Panda Bear’s exquisite Person Pitch set, all brought together with a splash of bubbly antipodean charm.”
SCORED 8/10 ON THIS IS FAKE DIY
”Tribal chanting, shrieking and whooping provide the backdrop for singer Alister Wright’s raw and imperfectly honest voice on the new single from Sydney songsters Cloud Control. Prepare to be hypnotized as low male voices, a steady drumbeat and intermittent handclaps that wouldn’t have been out of place on the Lion King soundtrack transport you to another world. You can just envision enrobed African men shifting and swaying on the red ground – that is, until rocky electric guitars erupt into the tune from nowhere and jolt you out of the daydream. It’s a weird yet surprisingly pleasant sensation: several different influences are at work here that shouldn’t really fit together, but the combination is mesmerizing.”
A few remixes of Cloud Control’s Gold Canary have been floating around the internet. There are three of them and they’re all AMAZING. Seekae, Danimals and Spruce Lee all mashed up the track and we’re pleased to be able to present them to you now.
Gold Canary (Danimals NYC Bagel Remix)
Gold Canary (Spruce Lee Remix)
We also redid the Gold Canary film clip for the Seekae remix! Amazing!
